Obituary

Brother Charles James Johnson was called home May 10, 2018. He was born September 1, 1954 in New York, NY, to Roosevelt McCain and Katie Mae Johnson. Charles attended Evander Child High School in the Bronx, NY and served in the United States Army. He met and married his first wife Lisa Majett in the early 1970’s and from that union came Charles, Jr.
Charles was a charming, friendly man, full of life that was loved and respected by many. He was nicknamed “Charlie Bear.” He later met and married his second wife Lorraine Parker Johnson whom he loved dearly. Together they had ten children. Charles faced many challenges and by the grace of God he was able to get through them. While in recovery he met Bishop Jesse J. Scott, Sr. of Word of Life Ministries, they became good friends and he became a member of Word of Life Ministries. There he was blessed with the opportunity to become the co-founder of the recovery program “Victory Over Addiction”, which continues to serve as a blessing in the community and helps others overcome their additive behaviors. He soon became known by the nickname “Junkyard Dog”.
Charles will truly be missed and leaves to cherish his memories his children Charles, Jr. (Regina) Shelina, Robin, Molly (Mark), Regina (Kareem), Denine (Bashir), Donnell, Jovan (Jada), Kevin, Christina and Loretta. His grandchildren Crystal, Elijah, Unique, Shenia, Abbriel, Devin, Geneva, Gavin, Cashanti, Damzi, Caleena, Basir, Karrina, and Karmello. His Great-Grandchildren Mylee and Eva God-Daughter Chelsea and Tanieha. His Sister Betty Johnson, and brothers Andre (Phyllis), Kelvin and Darren Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his Word of Life Ministries Family.
Brother Charles is predeceased by his parents Roosevelt McCain and Katie Mae Johnson, his loving wife Lorraine Parker Johnson and his brother Willie James Washington.
